Research Group

What is SARG?

The Scottish Autism Research Group (SARG), which was founded in 1999, is an interdisciplinary group of academic researchers, postgraduate students, practitioners, and autistic community members involved in autism research. It is a space for the autism community to connect, give talks and share their experiences.

Our Research

The group was formed to provide a platform for sharing research-in-progress, to encourage debate and to offer academic support to post-graduate students.

Publications

SARG publications provide a platform for sharing some of the most recent research findings within an integrated context, offering a balanced representation.

The Scottish Autism Research Group (SARG), which was initially founded in 1999 by Dr Evelyn MacGregor (University of Edinburgh), Dr Katie Cebula (University of Edinburgh), Dr Juan Carlos Gómez (University of St Andrews) and Dr Maria Nuñez (Glasgow Caledonian University)., SARG is an interdisciplinary group of academic researchers, postgraduate students and practitioners involved in autism research.

The Scottish Autism Research Group (SARG) was established to provide a space for the autism community to connect, give talks and share their experiences. It aims to foster discussion, share ongoing research, and offer academic support in a region where networking opportunities were previously limited. By encouraging interdisciplinary participation, SARG promotes a broader understanding of autism, facilitates networking, and advances autism research.

In addition to academic seminars, SARG hosts community day events to engage with the local autistic community, sharing research insights and gathering input for future studies.

Members come from diverse academic backgrounds, including psychology, education, clinical sciences, informatics, and linguistics, while practitioner members include clinical and educational psychologists, psychiatrists, teachers, and therapists. Membership and event attendance are currently free, though registration is required. Seminars are also open to non-members if spaces allow.
